My compassionate, trauma-informed approach to therapy utilizes techniques to help individuals explore the impacts that complex trauma, abuse and social inequality has had on their lives in a gentle, mindful manner, while helping folks learn tools to feel safe and grounded. I utilize a blend of approaches tailored to fit each client’s needs, such as: cognitive-behavioural therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, mindfulness-based techniques, and feminist therapy, all within a trauma-informed lens.
I help clients understand how their present struggles can be impacted by past trauma and realities of oppression such as internalized and everyday homophobia, transphobia, and racism. Some issues that I’ve helped individuals navigate include anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, relationship concerns (including poly/open and monogamous relationships), drug and alcohol recovery, harm reduction, family troubles, body image, disordered eating, dissociative identities, HIV/AIDS-related concerns, coming out as an LGBT person, supporting families with LGBT children, childhood abuse, sexual trauma, sexual health and gender dysphoria.
I am a Master’s-level Registered Social Worker with the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers, and my therapy services are covered by most insurance plans. I am a member of the Canadian Professional Association of Transgender Health and am experienced in providing referral letters for hormone therapy and gender confirming surgery assessments.
